Andrea Lynn Lanteigne's Animations

01. 2D Banner AD

The software I used was Adobe Photoshop to create this brief 2D animation of an animated Banner Ad. It isn’t unusual to use Photoshop for Animation. It is specifically easy to use with a banner advertisement. This is an advanced technique skill in Photoshop as this was not Photoshop’s original usage. Photoshop is the standard for Photo Editing and Digital Painting.

I used the Elements of Design by showing the element of space by showing depth. The element of form is shown in the 3D lettering and there are different textures on the background. Color and words create the mood. The Principles of Design are also present showing emphasis is on the words.

This was quite a creative project as each element except for the logo was designed separately, then put together at the end. Each of the elements are created in Photoshop and put all together in the banner ad. Even the letter design was contrived in Photoshop. This was very original. I did look at other banner ads to make mine work with my creative style. I do believe all of my creative designing came through on the end product.

With this work specifically, I know that minor changes can make a big impact on the final product. I kept this in mind when critiquing. I changed some of the words for a better impact on the final product. I think this was all that was needed for this project.

I followed the instructions— even to the detriment of the final product. The logo design is supposed to fit with the final design. As I have created the images individually, I don’t think the logo fits well with the colors used, but everything seems to work fine as is.

Craftsmanship should be very evident as each individual element was created individually. I believe it did come through in the final product as everything looks like it now belongs.

02. 2D Ball Drop

The software I used was Adobe Animate to follow the principles of animation to create this brief 2D animation of a single ball drop. Adobe Animate is a standard software in 2D Animation. This shows advance knowledge of the animation software using the principles of animation. I was able to apply the squash and stretch principles in the software.

I used the Elements of Design by showing space by creating depth as it has a shadow that goes onto the ground now. The Principles of Design are also evident as color is used to show emphasis on the ball.

Although this is a very basic ball bounce, I was creative with the color and the background. The animation itself allowed me to be creative using the Principles of Animation squash and stretch technique.

This work showed me how something simple can be very useful. This allowed me to critique others with this thought in mind. For the changes in this work- I did loop this animation as well as change the background so it would have a bit more depth.

The original directions were for this to be very simple with a simple ball and a simple background. The only deviations I did was for the background.

The animation loops very well. The Principles of Animation are apparent in this work and the animation is very smooth. It was very difficult to find something to change in this animation because it was well done.

03. 2D Ball Bounce

I used the Adobe Animate software to follow the principles of animation to create this brief 2D animation of a single ball bounce. Adobe Animate is a standard software in 2D Animation. This shows further advance knowledge of the animation software using the Principles of Animation. I was able to apply many of the animation principles in the software.

I used the Elements of Design by showing space and depth as it has a shadow on the ground with buildings in the distance. The Principles of Design are included as color is used to show emphasis on the ball.

I was creative with the color and the background. I made the background in Adobe Photoshop and then imported it into the software. The Principles of Animation allowed me to be a little creative with the animation and control when it stops.

I critiqued others with the thoughts of being respectful and knowing that changing something simple can have a big impact on a design. For the changes in this work— I made the ball come to a complete stop in the animation. Although this was a very simple change, I think it does improve the animation overall.

I followed the original directions. Although the original directions do not say for the ball to stop, I did this change so it was more complete.

The Principles of Animation are evident in this work. The animation is well done and with the small change, it is now smooth and complete.

04. 3D Dragon Sword
DragonSword_Final.png
DragonSwordCreating.jpg

I used Mudbox and Maya to create a 3D sword. I used compositing in the software Marmoset to create the final render. This was modeled in Maya with quads initially. Then it was taken into Mudbox for texturing and painting. It was finally composited in Marmoset. All of these software are industry standard. When modeling, I also made sure I had modeled in quads which are not only industry standard, quads are also needed for a seamless transition to Mudbox. I have shown advanced working knowledge of using Maya by adding lighting and rendering the scene.

I used the Elements of Design. The shadows show the element of space by showing depth. The element of form is shown in the 3D model and there are textures on the model. Color creates mood. The Principles of Design are also present. The emphasis is on the sword.

I made multiple sketches for this project. I had also brainstormed with 3D models I would like to create. I think this is evident in the final work as it looks like my sketches. I am including these for emphasis.

I gave thoughtful and appropriate critiques when both giving feedback by focusing on the Principles of Design while keeping in mind to be respectful. I did not an issue with the Principles of Design nor do I see that there is an issue from the critiques I had received. I did re-render the sword with a background to show how it would look with a realistic background.

I followed the directions on this assignment. There was no deviation needed. When I rendered it with a background, this went over and above the directions.

I spent a lot of time in Mudbox on this design. I had to redo it multiple times. I do believe that the craftsmanship is evident, and I would not change a thing on this sword.

05. 3D Ball

I used Maya to follow the principles of animation to create this 3D animation of a bouncing 3D Ball. Maya is a standard software in the animation industry. The ball looks like it is bouncing, and it is now seamless. I have shown advanced working knowledge of the Principles of Animation by showing a ball bouncing in 3D.

The Element of Design that is most evident is form and shape. The ball stretches and squashes as it is animated. This changes the shape of the ball. It does show the Principles of Design by the placement of the ball in the scene. It emphasizes the ball. The movement also draws the eye to it.

My creativity shows in the animation and the tilt I had it do before it stops. I think it looks kind of cute now.

I gave thoughtful and appropriate critiques when both giving feedback. I did make edits on this animation. The original was quite clunky and it ended off the page. The animation now comes to a stop at the end and it is now much more smooth and nice to look at.

I did adhere to the directions. As this was just a ball bouncing animation, I did not need to deviate from the original directions nor did I need to deviate when editing.

While there wasn’t too much craftsmanship, I did smooth the animation out considerably by tweaking and re-keying certain animations.

06. 3D Staff
3_Wand_FinalSketch.jpg
3_Wand_Sketches.JPG

I used Maya to create this 3D object and animation of a 3D Staff. Maya is a standard software in the animation industry. When modeling, I also made sure I had modeled in quads. I have shown advanced working knowledge of using Maya by adding lighting and rendering the scene.

I used the Elements of Design as the shadows show the element of space by creating depth. The mood is created by color. The element of form is shown in the 3D model. The Principles of Design are also present as the emphasis is on the staff.

I made multiple sketches for this project. I think this is evident in the final work as it looks like my sketches. I included these.

I gave appropriate critiques when both giving feedback by focusing on the Principles of Design. I know that sometimes adding more is better or the opposite can also be true, so I critiqued with that thought in mind. I did not an issue with the Principles of Design nor do I see that there is an issue from the critiques I had received. I think this shows progression into learning animation, so I kept it as is. I did add a segment where it shows before I animated.

I followed the directions on this assignment. There was no deviation needed.

I do believe that the craftsmanship is evident as I did model everything carefully in quads.

07. Gremlin Walk Cycle

I used was Maya to follow the principles of animation to create this 3D animation of a Gremlin Walking in a closed loop. Maya is a standard software in the animation industry. I created a rig using HumanIK then I used animation principles to animate the character. The character looks like it is walking in a loop like it was intended to do as it is a walk cycle. I have shown advanced working knowledge of using Maya by adding lighting and rendering the scene.

I used the Elements of Design. The angle I rendered the walk cycle shows the element of space by showing depth. The element of form is shown in the 3D character. There are textures on the character. Color is evident to create mood. The Principles of Design are also present. The emphasis is on the character. It shows movement by the very act of the walk cycle. The looping of the walk cycle is evident in the principle of repetition.

As it is a walk cycle, there isn’t really much creativity in this besides the lighting. Most of the brainstorming happened in the other Gremlin animations. I followed the principles of animation and made sure the hands were not going through the body.

I gave thoughtful and appropriate critiques when both giving feedback by focusing on the Principles of Design. Although I am focused on animation, I critiqued non-animated work. I tried to give feedback that was necessary for improvement. For my changes on this work— I looped the animation and included a pre-rendered version. It is a walk cycle and it follows all of the Principles of Design.

I did adhere to the given directions of the assignment. Deviation was not needed as it is a basic walk cycle. As this was a character I had to rig and animate, I made sure I included and added the textures from the assignment folder which was not a requirement.

While the attention to detail is not necessarily evident to the average viewer— I did redo a few of the moving parts multiple times to get it to look effortless.

08. Gremlin Jumping Jacks

I used Maya to follow the principles of animation to create this 3D animation of a Gremlin doing Jumping Jacks in a closed loop. Maya is a standard software in the animation industry. I created a rig using HumanIK then I used animation principles to animate the character. The character looks like it is doing jumping jacks and it is seamless between loops. I have shown advanced working knowledge of using Maya by adding lighting and rendering the scene.

I used the Elements of Design. The shadows show the element of space by showing depth. The element of form is shown in the 3D character and there are textures on the character. Color is creating mood. The Principles of Design are also present. The emphasis is on the character. It shows movement by the character moving.

Creativity is evident in this animation. I had to choose a looping animation and I chose jumping jacks because I thought it would be funny to make the character do jumping jacks and this was after brainstorming many ideas. I think the idea is unique. I did sketch this out to make sure it looped correctly.

I gave thoughtful and appropriate critiques when both giving feedback by focusing on the principles of design including attention to emphasis. I did not see an issue with the Principles of Design nor do I see that there is an issue from the critiques I had received. However, I went ahead and looped it. The looping would’ve already happened on my website, but I added it as I did not know what else to do. I also included a pre-rendered version to show the progression.

Per the guidelines of this project, it was for a looping animation that could be found in a game. I believe this could be found in a game with the Gremlin working out. It was not necessary to deviate from the original directions.

I made sure that this animation looped well by copying the initial keyframes and putting them at the end. Although this was a simple animation, I think of the three Gremlin animations— this one is the best as it loops the cleanest.

I used Maya to create the above Gremlin Poses.

09. Gremlin Dance

I used Maya to follow the principles of animation to create this 3D animation of a Gremlin Dancing. Maya is a standard software in the animation industry. I created a rig using HumanIK then I used animation principles to animate the character. The character looks like it is dancing and is seamless between dance moves.

Creativity is evident in this animation as it was substantially planned. I sketched out the movement before implementing it into the character. I believe the creativity shows in the dancing. I believe this is ethical as it is unique. This doesn’t mean to say that the walk cycle is unethical because it isn’t unique, but this dance cycle was created from a series of ideas— from disco to ballet to the Hamilton movie “click boom” scene. This string of moves is unique, but also the animation and the poses of the character are not copied from elsewhere.

I gave thoughtful and appropriate critiques when both giving feedback by focusing on the Principles of Design with emphasis on alignment. For this work— I changed the lighting and re-rendered the animation which caused my computer to crash more than once. It is a dance that is unique, and I do not see an issues with it looking at the principles of design nor do I see that there is an issue from the critiques I had received. However, I did re-render it to increase the quality as this was my most recent created animation. I also added a spotlight that animated to show intrigue.

I did adhere to the given directions of the assignment and followed each step. Deviation was not needed as it followed the intent of the assignment, and it follows what I needed it for.

I was very careful with this animation. The lighting is even better now. The resolution is good. I believe my attention to detail in this is evident in the way the character moves. I tried to give it a bit of life by moving the head in addition to the limbs. It also looks more fun.

The software I used was Adobe Animate to follow the principles of animation to create this interactive 2D animated game. The software I used was Adobe Animate to follow the principles of animation to create this interactive 2D animated game. Adobe Animate is a standard software in 2D Animation, but not necessarily for gaming. This shows further advance knowledge of the animation software using the Principles of Animation. I was able to apply many of the animation principles in the software. It also shows advanced knowledge of the software by showing interactions with buttons which is not the software’s primary intent.

I used the Elements of Design by showing space and depth by using overlapping imagery. The Principles of Design are included as size and movement is used to show emphasis on the Caticorn.

I was very creative with this project. Each element— the planets, the background, and the Caticorn was all illustrated by myself. I created the images in Adobe Photoshop and then imported it into the software. The Principles of Animation allowed me to be a little creative with the animation and control when it stops.

I critiqued others with kind thoughts and knowing that emphasis is really important. For the changes in this work— I switched the whole project out.

I followed the original directions of the project. I did make changes after class was over as the original animation was made with Adobe Flash and I changed it to HTML to post it online. Adobe Flash is now obsolete, so the change was necessary.

For craftsmanship, it works like a game. The Principles of Animation are evident in this work. The animation is well done. The images are also very pristine.
