Poetry: Fall 2009 Intro to Creative Writing College

The first poetry I've written that I did not throw away.

Weeded Advertisements

Like crabgrass in an unkept lawn,

they pop-up everywhere.

They are those endless innumerable dandelions

needed pulled each and every year.

They are candy to those who can afford

to spend the green in their pockets.

A sparse piece of chocolate

is given to their creators.

But to those who avoid them,

they are like alcohol and sex to the abstinent.

They become a needless pause

forced on the always ticking clock of consumer society.
